Probity and integrity are the bedrock of good governance. Vigilance administration is a fundamental and vital function of the management. The Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) heads the Vigilance Division of the organisation concerned and acts as an advisor to the chief executive in all matters pertaining to vigilance. He also provides a link between his organisation and the Central Vigilance Commission on one hand and his organisation and the Central Bureau of Investigation on the other. Vigilance functions to be performed by the CVO are of wide sweep and include collecting intelligence about the corrupt practices committed, or likely to be committed by the employees of his organisation; investigating or causing an investigation to be made into verifiable allegations reported to him; processing investigation reports for further consideration of the disciplinary authority concerned; referring the matters to the Commission for advice wherever necessary; taking steps to prevent improper practices or commission of misconducts; examining audit, inspection and other reports from the point of vigilance angle, etc.
The objective of NRL Vigilance department is to ensure good governance practices in all official proceedings. Vigilance function takes preventive, punitive and participative steps at NRL with more emphasis on preventive and participative aspects and helps in enhancing transparency and fairness in business transactions which will ensure accountability, promote a culture of honesty and integrity, enhance ethical standards and good corporate governance that the Company strives to achieve, through effective preventive vigilance measures.
Mr. Amit Saran, IRSME, CVO, OIL has assumed additional charge of CVO, NRL w.e.f. 26-04-22. Mr. Saran is the CVO of OIL, a responsibility he took over w.e.f. 19.04.2022.

Shri Amit Saran, is an officer of Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers,1995. He holds a bachelor’s degree Mechanical Engineer with MBA in Operations Management. He has vast experience in Operations and Maintenance over various Zonal Railways and has been instrumental in design validation and field testing of a variety of Rolling stock of Railways and Metro rail systems in Research, Design and Standards Organisation.
In Ministry of Mines, he has dealt with issues of Aluminium sector and International Cooperation in Mining Sector besides administrative matters of Geological Survey of India, Indian Bureau of Mines and National Aluminium Company. He has been instrumental in formulating the National Non-Ferrous Metal Scrap Recycling Framework, 2020, developing the Non-Ferrous Metal Import Monitoring System and setting up of Khanij Bidesh India Limited besides steering the National Mineral exploration Trust to enhance mineral exploration in the country.
