The company has made significant progress in the use of Information Technology for managing its resources. Since its inception the Company has been guided by the principle of making use of Information Technology as a strategic tool of management and to increase transparency in corporate governance. The Company implemented an ERP solution of M/s Ramco Systems, first in oil sector PSUs, in October 1998 to integrate all the business functions of the Company.

With the changing business requirements, a need was felt to upgrade the ERP System to cater to new challenges emerging due to new business processes being adopted by the Company. The company had implemented SAP R/3 4.7 ERP suite in August 2005 to cater to the new business processes as well as upgrading the existing processes and also to get the synergistic benefit with the other Group Companies - BPCL and KRL (now BPCL). The NRL SAP System was upgraded to a new version SAP ECC 6.0 ERP in March 2011 along with SAP Enterprise Portal implementation. With the digital transformation of the business activities, the SAP version was migrated to S/4 HANA on February 2022 successfully along with adoption of IBM BAW (Business Automation Workflow) to automate digital workflows across the business functions of Finance, HR, Procurement, Operations, IT and e-Office Approvals.

The company has also implemented B2B (Business To Business) over SAP for seamless integration of exchange of business information with IOCL, BPCL, HPCL, OIL and ONGC, Nayara Energy.

NRL has been extensively using e-Procurement portals (CPPP - Central Public Procurement Portal & GeM - Govt. e-Market Place) in procurement of materials and services, also utilizing e-auction platform for selling products and materials.

NRL is using Aspen Tech suite of software for different applications in the refinery. Presently, NRL is using PIMS for Refinery Production Planning, DMC3 for Process Control, AtOM / AORA for Inventory Reconciliation and Yield Accounting and IP21 as historian of plant data and dashboard under Manufacturing & Supply Chain (MSC) suite of software licenses. NRL is also using Aspen Hysys for process simulation and analysis under Aspen One Engineering suite (AES) of software license.

For Quality Control, Thermofisher Scientific, SampleManager LIMS manages the laboratory, data and procedural workflows, connecting with enterprise systems (Aspen Tech IP21 and SAP), instruments and equipment to deliver increased compliance and productivity across NABL certified lab at Refinery, Numaligarh and Marketing Terminal, Siliguri.

E-Governance:

Information Security Management System is integral part of every aspect of IT operation and information asset management in the organization. Numaligarh Refinery Limited is ISO 27001:2005 certified for implementation of Information Security Management Systems and it has been maintaining the standard since June 2009.

The company has taken initiatives for protection of its critical business data and information, as such a Disaster Recovery Data Centre was stated in Kolkata in 2006, and subsequently the DR site has been shifted to a state of art Disaster Recovery Data Centre in NRL Siliguri Marketing Terminal. The Disaster Recovery site is connected with NRL Primary site with high capacity leased links for online data replication.

Promoting "Make in India" #atmanirbhar: NRL has been forefront in promoting Indian products and solutions. Since inception, company implemented Ramco Marshall ERP from M/s Ramco Systems, Chennai in 1998 to conduct its business operations.

In line with MietY notification on - Public Procurement (Preference to Make in India) Order 2019 for Cyber Security Products, NRL has incorporated the following products/appliance/software in its enterprise infrastructure landscape to counter cyber security challenges.
