R&D Policy


NRL believes that, innovation through a sustained process of research & development is the only cutting edge tool for an organization to thrive in today's dynamic business environment. Accordingly, we are committed to attain sustained excellence by encouraging creative work undertaken in a systematic manner in order to create knowledge infrastructure and its use to devise new applications that maximizes the Economic, Environmental and Societal benefits for the stake holders including people of the region.

In pursuance of the above vision, NRL shall:

  • Ensure identification of the process that brings in commercial benefits to the organization or/and bring about better management of environmental issues so that implementation of such process brings about benefit to all stake holders including people of the region.
  • Set up of own facilities to undertake research and development activities, outsourcing wherever need arises, to improve future performances and returns.
  • Indentify a group of employees to pioneer the R&D activities and ensure developing competency required for the process by setting up objectives.
  • NRL would gradually build its capacity through sustained allocation of resources.    
  • Ensure preservation of intellectual properties and efficient performance of relevant processes,
  • Review of the policy periodically for continual improvement of the effectiveness of R&D activities.

SPECIFIC R&D PLAN IDENTIFIED FOR 2012-13:

The following projects are identified for the year 2012-13

  • Development of Model of Numaligarh Refinery in PIMS with target date of completion 01.02.2013
  • Study to phase out use of Py Gas in MS blending with target date of completion of study on 15.02.2013
  • S02 Recovery from Flue Gas at SRU with target date of completion of detail engineering 15.02.2013 and overall completion of project by 2014-15
  • Creation of R&D infrastructure
